Gilbert's - Ft. Lauderdale, FL

It's award winning (Sun-Sentinel Best Burger in Broward 2010)... So we had to end the year with the what the people voted on as the best. Back in July of 2010, Gilbert's was voted #1.

Right off the bat, you can tell this was a family run burger/grill spot. Owner's Lenore & Bill Gilbert were at the door greeting every customer and making you feel like you walked into their own home. Both, their son and daughter were working the counter and front of house... Truly a warm feeling for a strip mall - fast food type of burger/grill joint. 8 burgers fill the menu which has plenty of other grill items on it, but we're here for one thing... Burgers! Every burger is made with Certified Angus Beef with no extra seasonings added to keep the meat flavor at its purest.

What we ordered:
Lunchbox - Brie, Bacon & Fried Onions burger.

Miracle Man - Crumbled Blue Cheese Stuffed burger with grilled onions.

Open Mic - Bacon Cheese burger.

Hockey Puck - Classic burger with grilled onions and mushrooms on the side.

Wifey & Mrs. Disney - Cheeseburger's
Momma Dukes - Chicken Philly Sandwhich... Huh?

Our burger thoughts:
Meat flavor was awesome... Size of the burger was great... The cheese on the cheese burgers was not melted when the burger arrived... Blue cheese stuffed burger was PERFECT... They ran out of pickles(could of gone to Publix in the shopping center to get more?)... The Brie slices were great & melted as the burger was eaten... If you get a chance, try ANY of the desserts (Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake, Plain Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie or Mexican Wedding Cookies) Mmmmm!

Overall ratings from Rare (worst-1) to Well-Done (best-5):
Lunchbox: Medium-Well (4)
Miracle Man: Well-Done (5)
Open Mic: Medium-Well (4)
Hockey Puck: Well-Done (5)
Mrs. Disney: Medium-Well (4)
Wifey: Medium-Well (4)
**Total for the group overall rating = Medium-Well (4.2)
We do have to extend a WELL-DONE (5) rating for the hospitality!

ROK:BRGR - Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Monday night... Downtown Ft. Lauderdale is a ghost town... and we wait 30 minutes for burgers. Guess that's a sign of good things to come...?

The atmosphere is real nice. It feels like your up in the north-east at a nice city bar. Brick walls, dim lighting, solid music & high def tv's along the long bar, which has a great selection of beers, set up very nicely. If i had to guess, i would say there's only seating for 60 or so. Which can explain the wait. Wasn't bad. We were just real hungry!

We started things off with Lobster Corn Dogs & Momma's Chili...
Perfect choice!
It then got interesting trying to figure out what burger to go with... The selection is real nice along with the 'build your own' section, it can be overwhelming. Only because all the ingredients sounded great on a burger.

Sgt. Sauce decided to create his own burger:
Double Stack went with the 'D Wade': 10oz Black Angus, Vermont cheddar, homemade chili, grilled jalapenos, cilantro sour cream on a sesame bun.
Lunchbox chose 'Peggy': a 10oz Black Angus, pulled short rib, horseradish cheddar cheese, bourbon bbq sauce. (Named after the english bulldog mascot Peggy)
Newcomer, Meat Sweats decided to create his own:
Another newcomer, Little Dipper went with 'The Classic': 10oz Black Angus, yellow American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle on a sesame bun.

Overall ratings on a scale from Rare (worst) to Well-Done (best):
Sgt. Sauce: Well-Done
Double Stack: Well-Done
Lunchbox: Well-Done
Meat Sweats: Well-Done
Little Dipper: Well-Done

The flavor quality of everything we ate really set this place apart from other pub burgers we have had. Massive amount of toppings didn't make the burger too messy(we felt the lettuce/tomato/onion hidden under each burger was a bit unnecessary). With a packed house, although it was small, they still were able to cook everyone's burger perfectly. Lobster Corn Dogs, come on... Outstanding! Momma's Rum Cake... Perfectly Moist!

"Sharing our leftovers..."

"The search for Palm Beach’s best burger has been a difficult yet delicious quest. One of onion rings and sweet potato fries, frosty mugs and ketchup-smeared napkins. What defines a great burger? A subjective and contentious question, to be sure, but one thing is certain: Ingredients are key. Ground chuck at 80/20 makes for a great patty (fat is good, in moderation), a fresh bun can make or break the burger, and sides should be neat, as overcomplicated burgers tend to get lost in a jumble of competing flavors."

Bob's Burgers - New FOX cartoon

Going to check this out... Starts January 9th, 2011

The show is about "a man, his family and their floundering burger joint. Despite the greasy counters, lousy location and occasionally spotty service, Bob and his lovable and quirky family are convinced their burgers are their ticket to success"
