Beer & Burger Joint - South Beach, FL

The location is not so much the South Beach everyone now sees on MTV's Jersey Shore, but technically is down in South Beach. A little bit on the north side (Lincoln Rd.) area. Hidden in a small construction area near the water, the neon lights were easy to find.

After watching their flying Burger at Red Bull Flugtag, I had to take a drive back down to South Beach to try out the fully loaded burger menu.

The wait was too long to get a table inside so we decided to enjoy the Miami summer heat with a few beers & onions rings to help get us in the right burger frame of mind. The jalapeno cheddar dip for the monster sized onions rings was a nice touch.

So when it comes to the menu, be prepared to read. Each burger is loaded with atleast 4 toppings. Its not just the meat, which ranges from Sirloin, Angus & Wagyu Beefs to seared Ahi Tuna Steak, Portabello Mushroom and a $75 - 10lb Mother Burger. Average price per burger is $13, each with quite the rock star names: Thunder Road, Hotel California, Rock Lobster, Dear Prudence, Stairway to Heaven, Fly Like an Eagle, Buck Nekid, Freebird, & Mustang Sally. You can also create your own from all the varieties available.

We decided on the Hotel California: Guac, grilled red onion, sharp cheddar, & fried egg. Served with a fries and sides of Cilantro Sour Cream & Ranchera Salsa. Next was the Dear Prudence: a portabello mushroom (as the burger), grilled red pepper, fresh arugula, mozzerella & pesto, served with zuchhini fries. The other burgers were your basic 'create your own' cheese burgers. 

Because of the amount of toppings each burger was given, it was hard to enjoy. Almost confusing when eating. The ranchero salsa and jalepeno cheddaar onion rings were the highlight of the meal. But we did get a chance to see the Mother Burger up close in person(see photos below).

They participated in the Delray Beach, July 4th celebration - Xtreme Eat Off, run Happy Hour Specials 4-7pm & 9-11pm Buy One, Get One Drafts & Bucket Beer Specials. Just in time for football season. Should be fun to watch both pigskin and pig-outs!

"Sharing our leftovers..."

The 'S. Benz Thanksgiving Burger'

Ingredients:

• Tablespoon butter
• 1/2 onion, finely chopped
• 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
• 1 large garlic clove chopped
• 4-5 leaves sage minced
• 1.5  pounds ground turkey breast
• 3-4 ounce chicken-flavored dry bread stuffing mix
• 1 eggs
• 6-8 hamburger buns, split
• 1 (16 ounce) can cranberry sauce
• whipped cream cheese
• sprinkle of poultry seasoning

Directions

• Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
• Heat the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat, stir the onion, celery and garlic until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
• Place the cooked onion, celery and garlic in a large bowl with the ground turkey, stuffing mix, egg, poultry seasoning (optional) and sage; mix to thoroughly combine. Form the mixture into 6-8 patties. Unlike hamburger, these patties will not change shape while cooking, so make them even in size.
• Grill the turkey burgers on the preheated grill until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 5-8 minutes per side.

• Place each patty on a hamburger bun, and top with cranberry sauce and a dollop of whipped cream cheese to serve.

The Rolling Stove - Delray Beach, FL

West Palm Beach, I present to you, "The Rolling Stove." This mobile eatery has invaded Delray Beach and is looking to win over your stomachs. Permits are making it hard to settle in on a location so you'll have to stay west in Delray Beach for now but be on the look out in the near future as they begin to travel around town filling your stomachs.

I found them on Military Trail, just north of Atlantic Ave (across from The Boys Market). Troy, the owner/chef, told me they will be setting up shop here for now. Super friendly and a great cook. They are open for lunch (11:30am - 2pm) and also Dinner (5pm - ??)... if you can find them.

Of course I had to start with the Steak Burger - topped with grilled onions & cheddar cheese($6.95). The burger was a monster patty. Perfectly cooked. Juicy and well prepared.

 

I was also tempted to try "Ron's Bites" - Baked potato sliced thick then fried, topped with cheddar cheese and parmigiano-reggiano cheese.

The menu features some sweet grilled items.
- Jerk Chicken Sandwich
- Jerk Chicken Wings
- Sloppy Jerk(try it topped on the Ron's Bites!!)
- and for dessert a chocolate covered frozen banana.

"Sharing our leftovers..."

The best way to eat these is clearly 'on the beach.' They taste exactly like a Burger along whopper. You can taste the ketchup & mustard. Not much burger flavor but it overall reminds me if eating a hamburger.  Worth a try. Good job Doritos.
