Charm City Burger Company - Deerfield Beach, FL

This is your classic hole-in-the-wall, local joint, that just knows how to do burgers the right way! Simple concept. Walk in, order, pick up, eat, enjoy! Not to far from the beach, not to far from I-95. Great location, just sneaks up on your when your trying to find it.

It's interesting that they advertise $5 Burgers (plural) but only have 1 $5 burger on the menu (Good Ole - Classis Cheeeburger). Also caught my attention is that they cook all burgers Medium-Well unless specified. Don't get caught off guard. They do have a nice selection of buns for the burger - Artisian Sesame, Whole Wheat or Lettuce bun along with incredible choices for toppings to add to ANY burger - Peppered Bacon, Fried Egg, Has Browns, Grilled Onions, Sauteed Shrooms or Jalepenos.

Burgers are their thing but we did see a lot of Milkshakes being ordered. Oh yeah, order the Onion Rings. They were OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! Also, they have a great selection of Micro-Brewed beers to choose from. I was shocked to see so many behind the counter. Well played Charm City, well played!

Poppa Bypass ordered the "Cowboy Style" - Thick Cut Bacon, Aged Cheddar, Sauteed Shrooms & Grilled Onions. He is a huge fan of grilled onions but mentioned that they just got lost with everything else on the burger. Although his overall rating was Well-Done.

Fleaflicker decided to go with the same "Cowboy Style" but added the Fried Egg. (as seen in the photo). His first bite prompted a huge "MMMMM... Heaven." but he too agreed that the burger was great, just a big mix of flavors hurting his rating. Bringing it down to a Medium Well. He also chose to order a side of Tater Tots w/Cheese. Also another great addition to the meal!

Lunchbox switched things up and ordered "Volcano Style" - Pepper Crusted Bacon, Jalapenos, Peper Jack Cheese & Volcano Sauce. It became clear that we all had the same feeling. A lot of toppings that just made the burger flavors mesh together, almost taking away from the full experience. Great heat. Couldn't tell what the 'Volcano Sauce' really was. Bacon was on point! To me though, the Onion Rings were almost better than the burger.

Jason, of Charm City Burgers, came out to chat a bit and decided we had to try a sample of the "Oreo Fritters" and "The Carnie" - Fried Twinkie.

Again, I can't stress enough how great all of the sides and desserts are here. Solid burgers. Great Sides. Awesome Beers.

Riverwalk Trust's Burger Battle

On June 4th, 16 restaurants will be competing against each other in Riverwalk Trust's Burger Battle. The event will take place at the Riverside Hotel Lawn at 620 E. Las Olas Blvd. A panel of local celebrity judges will name one restaurant's burger the “Best Burger in Fort Lauderdale.”

The $40 entrance fee (only $30 if you prepay) includes burger samples from the competing restaurants, live music and complimentary wine and beer.

Heart Stoppers - Delray Beach

How can you pass on the opportunity to gorge yourself with meat? You can't. So try Heart Stoppers.

The theme is great. Nurses, Wheel Chairs, a Morgue, and yes a Scale. Now if you tip the scale at 350lbs or more, you EAT FREE. Don't ask for a Diet Coke or a Salad. They just don't have them. This is the kind of place that makes you forget about P90x workout and diet. If you're feeling up to the challenge they have a 3lb burger challenge that would make Man vs Food cringe. Oh yeah, leave room for the Fried Oreos & Fried Twinkies. (Ask for the mashmallow sauce!)

We love the idea and the burgers were great. Heart Stoppers just needs to figure out its identity. Are they a family restaurant or a sports grill? They have beers on tap and only 1 special (5 beer bucket for $10). I think they will become a great place once football season rolls around. The place has 7 TVs all easy to see from anywhere you sit. Be on the look out for a May - National Burger Month competition at Heart Stoppers...

Double Stack - Medium-Well
LunchBox - Medium-Well

Double Stack decided to, well, order a double stack. 2lb burger - cooked well done. This surely was a good test to see if he can tackle the 3lb challenge. Sgt. Sauce and Lunchbox have confidence in him but Double Stack was second guessing himself after he couldn't complete the 2lb burger he ordered.

Sgt. Sauce went small and ordered the Sliders off the appetizer menu. Theses weren't your tiny BK Sliders, no sir. They were well sized and cooked to order. "I would come back and order just the sliders" Double Stack.

Lunchbox ordered the 1lb burger and enjoyed every minute of it. All 30 of them. This was much larger than a Chee-burger Chee-burger challenge burger. No picture on the wall at this place for it. That you'll need to hit up the 3lb burger challenge for(see photos below).

Leftovers:
While were we getting settled, the chef decided to make us his favorite sandwhich, NOT ON THE MENU. He uses the same steak they cook for the steak sandwich, sears it rare, and served it up on a hamburger bun with tomato and mayo. Simple but so tasty. The meat sets it off! In keeping with the theme of Heart Stoppers, we suggest the chef name the sandwich "The Bypass".

Heartburn Tax Relief

First I must start by thanking every one of the 100+ fans that have joined our Facebook Fan Page. In exactly 2 weeks, we reached the 100 Fan mark. Only bigger and better things to come.

Yes, I decided to give myself heartburn for the week and go get the Tax Relief deal from McDonalds today. Buy 1 Qtr Pounder & Get 1 for $0.01.

It was incredible to see how many people gave in as well. The line was never empty. The place had atleast 40 people inside continuosly and EVERYONE had the deal on their tray. Insane!

As you'll see, I started out well, but finished rather quickly. I was only able to finish 1/4 of the 2nd burger. There was no way my acid reflux would allow anymore. And as i write this, i am falling asleep (only 1 hour after eating).

I did see the documentary Super Size Me and learned to not go overboard but how can you pass up the chance to eat 0.5 lb of meat for less than $4.

Although I am not a huge advocate of FastFood Burgers, this is brilliant!

Burger King has launched an iPhone app that allows you to order, pay and simply pick up. Its only available in the Flushing Queens, NY area, but you can bet its going global sooner than later. Keep an eye out for it. We are!

Gomobo is taking the technology to a new level by rolling out the BK app.

"With normal online ordering you go into the site, you log on, you put in your address, and it shows restaurants near you," says Gomobo CEO Noah Glass. "One of the cool things the iPhone does is that it remembers who you are. So if you've logged-in in the past, it stores that user name and password."


And thanks to the phone's GPS function, the iPhone app also allows users to skip the step of entering in an address. Instead it automatically logs users in and shows them what restaurants are nearby.


The new app even acts like a loyalty card offering incentives and tracking order history.

With tha hottest show in town, BET Spring Bling, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get backstage before the show. We made it backstage, roaming around with the crew then ended up eating with them at Johnny Longboats in Rivera Beach, FL.

The burger, not so much. Typical flat grill char taste. With onion, lettuce. They had the nerve to charge $1 for cheese.

'Lunch Break' - The Brass Ring Pub

The Brass Ring Pub - Palm Beach Gardens

My co-worker and I headed out to experience the spicy burger after I showed him the blog. 

"I liked it alot. It had a good char taste even though it was medium rare. Juicy. 4 out 5. Pretty impressed." - Keith B.

My impression of the spicy burger is a bit different. Similar char taste was good, solid burger size but the spice was simple blue cheese dressing, paprika and cayenne. Simple and semi effective. 

Overall rating - Medium

P.S. - photos are horrible because the place was like a dungeon. No windows and a bunch of neon beer signs.
